Sober Living

The term "Sober Living" is used to describe widely varying living situations where drug and alcohol use is prohibited and abstinence is encouraged by an environment of sobriety. Cooper Fellowship operates Sober Living facilities in Santa Ana, Garden Grove, and Fullerton.

In Cooper's Sober Living Plan, there are two levels of Sober Living.

LEVEL I Sober Living is with moderate supervision. While program activities are not conducted on Sober Living sites, the resident remains surrounded by primary program atmosphere; the resident occupies a house directly across the street from the primary program, the resident takes his meals and attends a specified minimum number of meetings at the primary campus. Residents ordered by the Court to Sober Living are given mandatory alcohol/drug testing. The continued required participation and the proximity to the primary program give Staff a reasonably good vantage to evaluate the resident's sobriety. So long as resident complies with basic rules and seems to be functioning alcohol/drug free, the resident is "free" to mainstream back into the regular life activities. All Level I Sober Living Houses are in Santa Ana and adjacent to the Primary Program Campus.

LEVEL II Sober Living is independent living with some minimum supervision. The resident lives in an apartment building or house where all residents have promised not to use or possess alcohol or drugs and all residents must have previously completed a residential program. In this Sober Living environment, there is a camaraderie of persons who are overcoming a similar problem. This environment provides the very important and constant "support group" function. Testing is usually not required unless Staff has some suspicion of drug or alcohol use. Just as in the Primary Program and Level I Sober Living, anyone who tests positive or who is requested to test and refuses is immediately expelled. Otherwise, the resident is free to come and go as any individual in a normal residential setting would be. Cooper Fellowship Level II Sober Living facilities are located in Fullerton, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana.

NOTE: Cooper's Sober Living facilities are only open to persons "in recovery" who have previously
completed a residential recovery program.
