COOPER FELLOWSHIP THE MISSION OF COOPER FELLOWSHIP. THE CURRICULUM. The program architecture is "Mixed Model," i.e., Intensive Clinical training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy augmented and supported by traditional Social Model Twelve Step teachings. Psychologists conduct the Clinical aspect, which adheres to the protocols of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Addiction, a very specific and focused series of interactive learning experiences that teach greater awareness and alternative strategies to deal with life. Licensed and certified staff work with residents in both group and individual settings in the supporting traditional Twelve Step aspect. (Virtually all current professional literature demonstrates the superior efficacy of the mixed model architecture over either strictly 12 Step or strictly Clinical approaches.) Moreover, the curriculum focuses not only on the individual effects of substance abuse, but upon how others around them are affected. Accordingly, in addition to Relapse Prevention and Sobriety Skills, all residents participate in classes on Personal Relationships and Problem Solving. Open meetings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights where Cooper's active Alumni become an important component of recovery support. The Alumni are comprised of every age group and come from every walk of life. No matter how unique or difficult a resident feels his problems may be, some alumnus has already "been there, done that" and still maintained sobriety. ACCREDITATION.
