THE MISSION OF COOPER
FELLOWSHIP.
Helping others recover from substance
abuse is a complex and challenging effort. For almost 25 years, Cooper
Fellowship has been a vital resource in that effort. From a single house
with six residents in 1977, Cooper has grown in size and sophistication
to become Orange County's largest comprehensive residential substance
abuse recovery provider. In addition to its State Licensed and Certified
71 bed Primary Residential Program in Santa Ana, Cooper Fellowship
operates top rated Sober Living facilities for over 130 program graduates
in Fullerton, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana as part of its aftercare component. THE CURRICULUM. The
program architecture is "Mixed Model," i.e., traditional
Social Model Twelve Step Program with Clinical augmentations. C.A.S.
trained and certified staff work with residents in both group and individual
settings in the Twelve Step aspect. Graduate
Interns in university Masters and Doctoral programs, under the supervision
of Art Holden PhD, conduct the Clinical aspect, which adheres to the protocols
of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Addiction. (Virtually all current
professional literature demonstrates the superior efficacy of the mixed
model architecture over either strictly 12 Step or strictly Clinical approaches.)
Moreover, the curriculum focuses not only on the individual effects of
substance abuse, but upon how others around them are affected. Accordingly,
all residents attend classes in Parenting Skills and Domestic Violence. OPTIONS. Cooper is now conducting the very successful Options program, an alternative sentencing program, that permits employed individuals to keep their jobs while participating in a demanding recovery program. ACCREDITATION. Cooper is Licensed and Certified by the State of California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. Cooper Fellowship is approved by the Orange County Probation Department. Cooper Fellowship is part of the State of California pilot program for Addiction Severity Index (ASI) data collection. THE FACILITIES. Cooper's Primary Campus is located on approximately one and a half acres with 8 program homes. Cooper's facilities include separate men's and women's residence houses, common dining room, library, swimming pool, volleyball court, and separate weight rooms for men and women. Cooper's Level One Sober Living are homes directly adjacent to the Primary Program. Cooper's Level Two Sober Living facilities vary from our 52 bedroom apartment building to homes in regular residential neighborhoods. ( click on image below for larger picture) Cooper Fellowship is currently under contract with the County of Orange Health Care Agency for the Post-Custody Release Program. Preference in availability is given to applicants from that contract. Cooper Fellowship, Inc. is a California Non Profit Corporation organized and operated pursuant to 501(c)(3) of the Federal Internal Revenue Code. Cooper Fellowship is funded by both public and private funds.
